About
Gareth Price earned a BA in English with Media Studies from University College Falmouth in 2001, and an MA in Sociolinguistics from the University of Essex in 2004. He gained his PhD from Essex in July 2009, on submission of his thesis 'A Political Sociology of Language in Taiwan: Local, National and Global Contexts'.*
Gareth's research interests are in political sociology and sociolinguistics, particularly in the areas of globalisation and nationalism, and migration and diaspora.
Gareth is currently Visiting Assistant Professor at the Center for Slavic, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies at Duke University, where he teaches Language Policy in Eurasia and Introduction to Linguistics.
He has previously taught literature, sociolinguistics, and political discourse analysis at the University of Essex, Soochow University (Taipei, Taiwan) and Al Neelain University (Khartoum, Sudan).
